Charming Hostess CD Release Party at YBCA Sunday July 18!
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010Charming Hostess is having a CD release party for the music of The Bowls Project, just out on Tzadik! Yay! We have a lot to celebrate at this show: The Bowls Project dome is a force for good, Marika is back in town, and the women from the Real Vocal String Quartet will be playing with us. So rock this Sunday by listening to crazy devil music with Charming Hostess and then dancing with wild abandon to Watcha Clan!
The Bowls Project is an ecstatic investigation into sex, magic and secret desires in the Babylonian Jewish women’s amulets known as demon bowls. Demon bowl inscriptions are about secrets of the home: love and sensuality; angels and demons; and the trials and joys of daily life. The Bowls Project explores the opens up a conversation between these ancient amulet texts and American traditional music with the same preoccupations, inhabiting a space we call “the apocalyptic intimate.”
