The greatest klezmer Christmas song ever!
Sunday, December 16th, 2007Return
to the great Jewish themes of outsider-ness & redemption with
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer“— in Yiddish!
Performed by Kugelplex with vocals by Jewlia Eisenberg.
Yiddish translation by Gerry Tenney.
Charming Highlights 2007:
The years started with a residency at the Headlands working on The Bowls Project. We liked working in the stately pleasure dome, everyone drinking tea and chilling with sexy Babylonian angels and demons. Then Jewlia had a bike accident and smashed all her teeth out so that was a setback. But soon she had some temporary teeth and a fly grill and was on the road to recovery. ChoHo got to workshop the new material in avant-heaven and across the sea.
There were also some good conversations this year: with Frank London and Josh Kun for NextBook and with radical goddesses Jenny Romaine and Jennifer Miller at the Workmen’s Circle. The best thing about ChoHo this year was that it’s getting big and unwieldy again, including not only Marika Hughes and Cynthia Taylor, but also Jason Ditzian, Shahzad Ismaily, Aaron Kierbel, Boris Martzinovsky, Adam Scheflan and Nir Waxman. We expect that old ChoHo members Carla, Nina, Dawn, Nils, Dan and Wes will make a one-song appearance on The Bowls Project record as well. What can you do? That freaky commune mindset settles in and then it’s hard to get away. So life is good. Oh yeah, and Jewlia and ChoHo Wrangler AnMarie were on the cover of the SF Chronicle, which was cool.
