Classes in Judaic Studies with Jewlia Eisenberg: Rimon Series
Jewlia Eisenberg in Conversation with Faculty
from the Center
for Judaic Studies. This Rimon series will focus on Babylonian
incantation bowls – a type of amulet that was commonly used
more than 1500 years ago in the region now known as Iraq. These
bowls were inscribed with secrets and desires and then buried under
the home. They speak of mysticism and sensuality, angels and devils,
and the trials and joys of love and sex. These amulets were a cosmopolitan
form, shared by Jews, Syriac Christians, Gnostics, Mandaeans, and
Zorastrians.
